Canadian chanteuse Celine Dion and her manager-husband Rene Angelil have won many awards and accolades, but few compare with receiving the Order of Canada.

Governor General David Johnston bestowed the Order of Canada upon Dion and Angelil on Friday in a ceremony at the Citadel in Quebec City.

Dion was named an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1998. She says she feels like she has been “promoted.”

She thanked her husband for “helping me become both the woman and artist that I am,” and said that she would like to share the honour with her mother Therese, who was in attendance at the ceremony.

Angelil paid tribute to his wife in his speech, calling Dion “an exceptional woman, artist, and mother.”

In Quebec to perform a concert at the Plains of Abraham, Dion also was presented with an honourary degree from Quebec City’s Laval University.
