KINGSTON — An employee of Collins Bay Institution has been charged by Ontario Provincial Police with stealing from the prison’s pharmacy.

Greg Cox, 59, of Kingston has been charged by the OPP with theft under $5,000. The charge has not been proven in court. Cox was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Kingston on Feb. 25.

Correctional Service Canada confirmed Cox is an employee of the institution, but would not comment on his role there.

The OPP said that the Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, started their investigation on Dec. 4, 2020, after prescription medication had been taken from the pharmacy. Police said the medication went missing sometime between October and early November 2020.

Bill Dickson, a spokesperson for the OPP, said information about what prescription medication was taken is considered evidence.
