Ontario Provincial Police have charged a Perth and Smiths Falls developer with fraud and three other offences.
The OPP said in a news release that investigators laid the charges after a two-month investigation starting with a walk-in complaint on June 8. Const. David Bird of the OPP said the charges relate to a single victim and to a business transaction.
The OPP have charged 57-year-old Mark Lee of Smiths Falls with two counts of using a forged document, and one count each of fraud over $5,000 and personation with intent to gain advantage.
Lee told the Whig-Standard that he will be pleading not guilty to the charges and that it was all a misunderstanding.
“At this point I’m flabbergasted and I’m going to rectify the situation,” Lee said.
Lee operates his business in Perth, Smiths Falls, Lanark and Rideau Lakes Township.
