The Brockville Country Club has been given another opportunity to host a provincial event.

The club is scheduled to host the 2021 Ontario Junior Girls U19 Championship from July 6-9.

The venue in Elizabethtown-Kitley and Brockville had been slated to host the 2020 championship early last summer, but the event was put on hold in the spring because of the COVID-19 pandemic. When a revised provincial tournament schedule was released, the U19 championship had been relocated.

This will be the first time that the local club hosts a provincial championship.

“We at Golf Ontario are excited to bring the Ontario Junior Girls U19 Championship to the Brockville Country Club in the summer of 2021,” John Lawrence, manager of rules and competition for Golf Ontario, stated in a release distributed by the club earlier this week.

“The staff and organizers at the BCC have proven their ability to provide enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers for high-calibre junior golf competitions. The hospitality shown to our competitors and their parents/guardians at previous junior tournaments bodes well for a positive experience for the young women who will be competing at the BCC…”

After a practice round on Monday, July 5, 84 golfers will hit the course for the first two rounds of the 72-hole stroke-play tournament on July 6 and 7. The field will then be cut to the top 42 golfers and ties for the final two rounds on July 8 and 9.

The host tournament committee is being chaired by David Dargie; Linda Lumsden serves as vice-chair. The committee will be seeking 30 to 40 volunteers to help operate the event as well as sponsors. More information will be announced in the weeks ahead, according to the release.

The Golf Association of Ontario has developed COVID-19 protocols and procedures that align with mitigation measures that the country club put into place during the 2020 season. Those measures will be reviewed and modified for the 2021 season to address ongoing concerns related to the pandemic, the release indicated.

The Ontario Junior Girls Championships date back to 1927.

The Brockville club announced earlier this month that it has hired Adam Miller to be an associate professional as of April 1. Introduced to the game early in life by his father, Thom Miller PGA, Adam served as assistant professional in Smiths Falls from 2014-2018 and worked his way to associate professional in 2019 and director of golf in 2020. He is a certified instructor coach and club fitter (PGA).
