Local gymnasts bring home hardware from Eastern Canadian championships

Two members of the Loyalist Gymnastics Club earned gold, silver and bronze medals in the Elite 4 Division at the Eastern Canadian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Summerside, P.E.I., during the weekend.

Matteo Bardana, en route to the all-around gold medal, placed first in the rings and parallel bars and was also tied for first in the high bar. Bardana also picked up a silver in the vault and a bronze in the floor exercise.

Bardana was the all around gold medal winner while Waller picked up bronze in the all around.

Clubmate Sam Waller earned a gold medal in pommel horse, a silver in the floor exercises and was third all-around.

Their performances helped Team Ontario win the overall gold medal.

On the women’s side, Trillium Gymnastic Club’s Paige Cassidy placed fourth all-around in her events in the Level 7 open category.

She was fifth in the vault and floor exercises, sixth on the balance beam and seventh on the uneven bars.

Her performance also helped Team Ontario win gold at the championships.
